DPH Immunization Information
DHIN and the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) have worked closely to develop an Immunization Registry Update (VXU) process that is easy to use and understand. This new process provides several options that were developed to fit the unique needs of the submitting organizations. These options are not only easy to use but are designed to make submitting information more efficient than previous methods and will reduce the chance for data entry errors.
All of the available options will enable the routing of HL7 VXU messages through the DHIN to the Delaware Division of Public Health’s DelVax Immunization Registry System. A separate process (out-of-scope for this initiative phase) is for the query of the DPH Immunization Registry through the initiation of HL7 Immunization Registry Query (VXQ) messages through DHIN to DPH.
It is important to note that this process requires the use of the Delaware DPH HL7 VXU specifications (based on the specs from the CDC) for all users – Hospitals, Organizations, and Practices.
There are 4 steps to setting up your organization for submitting Immunization Registry Update (HL7 VXU) messages to the Delaware DPH through DHIN.
- Organize your immunization information in the approved Delaware DPH Immunization Registry Update (HL7 VXU) format.
- Request a Facility Code from DPH. Click here to complete the facility code request form.
- Obtain a DIRECT Secured Messaging account for receipt of Acknowledgement Rejects (AR) and Acknowledgements in Error (AE) notifications.
Please Note: Steps 1 through 3 can happen at the same time in preparation for Step 4.
- Determine the channel that you want to use to transport your information to DPH via DHIN:
- DIRECT Secured Messaging
- SFTP Upload
- Interface
Please note, the Delaware DPH VXU HL7 format is the required file format for organizations intending to attest for Meaningful Use. Additional information relating to VXU formatted messages can also be found at the Regional Extension Center website.
